Regular Lawn Mowing and Edging

A regularly mowed and edged lawn is the foundation of a well-kept garden. We cut to the right height for the season and the grass type, avoiding the common mistake of cutting too short in dry conditions which stresses the turf and turns it brown. We edge borders and paths cleanly after each cut for a sharp, professional finish. Grass clippings can be collected and removed or returned to the lawn as a light mulch depending on conditions and your preference.

Lawn Renovation: Scarifying, Aeration and Overseeding

Over time, lawns accumulate thatch, become compacted and develop thin or bare patches. Scarifying removes the dead thatch layer and allows air, water and nutrients to reach the roots. Aeration using hollow tines removes small cores of soil, relieving compaction and encouraging deep root growth. Following these treatments, overseeding fills in bare patches and thickens the overall coverage. This renovation work is typically carried out in early autumn when conditions are ideal for new grass to establish.

Feeding and Seasonal Treatments

Grass is a plant that needs feeding to stay healthy and green. We apply appropriate granular lawn feeds through the growing season, choosing formulations that promote strong green growth in spring and summer and root hardening in autumn. In dry summers we advise on watering strategies to prevent stress browning. We can also treat common lawn problems including moss, which is very common in the damp conditions of the Hampshire and Dorset border area, and weeds such as dandelions and daisies that compete with grass coverage.

We took on the lawn care for a large garden near Hale that had been left without any treatment for several years. The lawn was heavily thatched, very mossy and had several bare patches where tree roots had been removed. Over one autumn and the following spring, we scarified, aerated, overseeded and applied a seasonal feeding programme. By the following summer the lawn had completely transformed and the owners could barely believe it was the same garden.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a lawn be mowed in the Fordingbridge area?

During the growing season from spring to early autumn, most lawns in the Fordingbridge area benefit from cutting every one to two weeks depending on growth rate and weather conditions. In spring and early summer when growth is vigorous, weekly cutting may be needed. During dry summers, cutting frequency can be reduced. Future Trees & Garden Maintenance can advise on a schedule that suits your lawn.

When is the best time to scarify a lawn near Fordingbridge?

The best time to scarify a lawn in the Fordingbridge area is early autumn, typically September. This gives the grass time to recover and fill in before winter. Spring scarifying is also possible but carries more risk of stress if followed by a dry spell. We always combine scarifying with overseeding and feeding to get the best results from the renovation.

Can you fix a patchy and mossy lawn in the SP6 area?

Yes. Moss and patchy growth are among the most common lawn problems in the damp conditions of the SP6 area. Future Trees & Garden Maintenance can assess your lawn, identify the causes, and carry out the right combination of treatments including scarifying, aeration, moss treatment, overseeding and feeding to bring it back to good condition.
