More Information
Whether you have a small box edging around a formal bed or a 60-metre run of six-metre-high leylandii, we can cut it. Our equipment includes professional hedge trimmers, long-reach tools for tall hedges and clearing rakes and vacs for arisings. We cut to the shape you want, whether that is a formal flat top and sides or a more natural tapered profile. For tall hedges we use the appropriate access equipment and work safely at height throughout.
Getting the timing right makes a big difference to how good a hedge looks and how quickly it recovers. Most formal hedges are best cut in late summer after the main growth flush has slowed. Native hedgerows for wildlife are best left until late winter, after birds have finished with the berries. We can advise you on the right time of year for your specific hedging. If your hedge contains nesting birds during the spring and summer months, we follow the guidance on avoiding disturbance during the nesting season.
One of the most time-consuming parts of hedge cutting is dealing with the cuttings. We handle all of this as part of the service. Arisings are raked or blown from borders and paths, collected and removed from site. Where access allows, we use a collecting mower or vacuum to pick up fine cuttings from lawns. We leave the site clean and tidy so you can enjoy the results without spending the rest of your day sweeping up.
Future Trees & Garden Maintenance was founded over 20 years ago right here in the Fordingbridge area. What started as a small tree surgery business has grown into a full tree and garden maintenance service covering the SP6 postcode and beyond. We are proud to be NPTC qualified, which means our arborists meet the nationally recognised standard for safe and competent tree work. We have worked in back gardens in Breamore, along the lanes of Woodgreen, on large rural estates near Rockbourne, and on roadside trees throughout the New Forest fringe. We know this landscape well and we care about keeping it beautiful and safe.

We cut the hedges on a number of properties in and around Alderholt and Crendell on a regular basis. One customer has a mix of yew, beech and hawthorn running the full length of their cottage garden. The mixture of growth rates and textures requires a careful approach to keep the whole run looking consistent. We have been cutting this hedge for several years and know exactly how it behaves through the seasons. That kind of ongoing relationship with a garden is something we really value.

STILL NOT SURE?
Most hedges in the Fordingbridge area benefit from one or two cuts per year. Formal hedges such as beech, box and yew typically need two cuts, one in early summer and one in late summer. Leylandii and other vigorous hedges may need up to three cuts a year to stay tidy. Native hedgerows can often be managed with a single cut in late winter. We will advise on the right schedule for your specific hedge.
Yes. Future Trees & Garden Maintenance regularly cuts tall hedges across the Fordingbridge area, including leylandii, laurel and mixed boundary hedges of five metres or more. We use long-reach equipment and appropriate working-at-height methods to cut safely and achieve a good result. Call 07401 310677 for a free same day quote.
You should avoid cutting hedges between 1 March and 31 July when birds are likely to be nesting, as disturbing active nests is a criminal offence. Future Trees & Garden Maintenance always checks for nesting activity before starting work and follows the relevant guidance. The best time to cut most hedges in the Fordingbridge area is from August through to February.
